Investment gold is a globally recognized standardized form of gold intended for long-term financial savings, wealth preservation, and portfolio diversification. In international practice—including in markets such as the United States—it generally denotes gold of high purity, issued in the form of bars or coins that meet specific industry standards and are widely accepted in financial and commodities markets.

Gold bars and tiles: usually 999/1000 purity or higher, in standard weights (e.g. 1 g, 10 g, 100 g).
Purity
Investment gold must have a minimum purity of 995/1000 for bars and 900/1000 for coins, with the most important investment coins usually exceeding 999/1000.
Tax treatment
